DermSpectra™ Announces an Integration of the Nikon D810 Camera, Providing a High Resolution Skin Imaging Solution

Tucson, AZ – DermSpectra™ announced today an OEM relationship with Nikon Inc, whereby the state-of-the-art medical device company will be integrating the high resolution Nikon D810 camera along with NIKKOR optics into the DermSpectra Total Body Digital Skin Imaging System, a solution enabling physicians to monitor critical skin changes (skin cancers, eczema, lesions, psoriasis, and rashes) over time. The DermSpectra advanced medical technology modernizes the way physicians digitally capture and compare skin irregularities by rapidly delivering patented high-resolution imaging, HIPPA-compliant secure storage, and immediate viewing capabilities.
For use by patients, dermatology and primary care practices, telemedicine centers, cosmetic and plastic surgeons, and the medical community, DermSpectra fills a critical gap in the digital skin imaging (DSI) market. Despite more than 4.9 million skin cancer cases treated each year in the U.S. and the Affordable Care Act’s focus on preventative care, there are few tools for standardized screening to aid in early detection of skin cancer at the total body level.
DermSpectra’s integration of the Nikon D810 camera allows the company to provide precise digital skin imaging capabilities using NIKKOR optics for maximum clarity. The D810 is a powerful tool to produce digital images of skin with distinct detail, dynamic range and sharpness. The D810 features a high resolution 36.3-megapixel, full-frame FX-format CMOS sensor without an optical low pass filter (OLPF), and the EXPEED 4 image processing engine; all which help to deliver superior response, precision and performance for the DermSpectra application. When used with NIKKOR lenses, the advantage of the full resolution power of the D810 becomes clear, with unsurpassed sharpness and definition.
“DermSpectra’s advanced technology coupled with the Nikon D810 camera provides one of the highest resolution digital skin imaging solutions on the market today, and we are proud to work with products from Nikon, a world leader in digital imaging, precision optics and photo imaging technology,” states Karleen G. Seybold co-founder and chief executive officer of DermSpectra.
”We are excited about DermSpectra expanding the limits of what’s possible with imaging-based application by integrating our super high resolution D810 into its total body digital skin imaging system. This should be a great benefit to medical professionals and patients for early skin cancer screening and detection,” said Masahiro Horie, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc.
With DermSpectra, patients experience an in-office, private, convenient, and short imaging session (8-10 minutes) while their physician views the latest digital images (on desktop or iPad), annotates directly to the image, and securely stores them on a HIPPA-compliant server database. DermSpectra enables physicians to complete the physical exam, assessment, and care plan during one office visit, alleviating post-appointment documentation.
Digital images captured through DermSpectra can be marked using simple touch screen features that allow physicians to zoom in on lesions, add notes, circle abnormalities or changes, annotate directly on the image, and attach a report to the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Ultimately this will help move the field of dermatological assessment into an “image centric or telemedicine” based practice.
The DermSpectra Total Body Digital Skin Imaging System is competitively priced and can be purchased directly, leased monthly, or offered through a price-per-scan model. DermSpectra will be exhibiting at the AAD 73rd Annual Meeting in San Francisco, March 20-24, 2015 Booth #7118.
According to Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th U.S. Surgeon General and DermSpectra board member, “Capturing digital skin images and tracking them year-over-year will aid in the early detection and management of skin diseases and cancers such as melanoma. DermSpectra is focused on early skin cancer detection with the goal that every person should have a total body digital skin image in their medical record.”
